Repairing My Brick Patio by Myself
YardPal/Bigslider moves pavers and sand without heavy lifting!
My YardPal and
Bigslider combination really came in handy in my latest
do-it-yourself project!
The corner of our
brick patio had collapsed, so I decided to remove the sunken
area and re-sand it. To start, I used YardPal to help me
move an extra (and very heavy) Pennsylvania bluestone paver
out of the way. You can see in the picture that it fits
perfectly on the YardPal!
I barely tilted it up
and pushed YardPal underneath it, then pulled the bluestone
completely on. At first I thought this extra paver may have
contributed to the collapse; however, when I lifted the
bricks I discovered there was no sand under them at all. I
suppose the people who laid this patio ran out by the time
they got to the corner.
Next I went to Lowe's to purchase sand, which only comes in
50 lb bags. I lifted it just once from the store floor into
the shopping cart's child seat. From then on it was
BigSlider to the rescue. I opened the trunk, pulled
BigSlider halfway out, draped it over the cart handle and
slid the bag down from the child’s seat directly into the
trunk without lifting. I simply folded BigSlider over the
bag and closed the lid; it also kept sand from getting all
over the trunk carpet.
When I got home, I threaded the rope through the tail holes
to slide it over the trunk edge and let it fall on the
driveway.
Then I pulled BigSlider and the sand bag on the driveway
concrete to the patio. (Yes, BigSlider works great on
concrete!)
I used a big metal
level to make sure I put down enough sand to raise the
bricks to exactly the same height as the driveway concrete.
I kept the sand bag on BigSlider and each time slid it to
the place I needed to pour. Finally, I swept in and hosed
down the sand and did some weeding and mulching. That’s how
I was able to make a safe and beautiful repair to our brick
patio all by myself!
Superior ergonomics, fewer steps: that’s the BIGSLIDER™ advantage
TOUGH. SIMPLE. EFFICIENT.
